HVAC systems enabled us to create comfortable indoor environment in any weather or climate. On the other hand, we need to recover from addiction to air conditioning in order to reduce excessive CO2 emission. Man demonstrates the inherent potential to adapt to its given thermal environment especially when we are close to outdoors. Our expectation for the environments determines our judgment of comfort. Principles of behavioral and psychological adaptation of occupants are being studied through eld studies in dierent architectural environments. Environmental design integrating building and equipment can provide settings that support people’s thermal adaptation to achieve moderate comfort.ResearchAreasEngineeringKeywords■Thermal comfort■Thermal adaptation■HVAC■Energy■Built environmentRelatedresearchSDGThermal comfort and adaptation in semi-outdoor environmentsAssociate ProfessorJunta NakanoUndergraduate School of EngineeringDepartment of Architecture and Building EngineeringThis study focuses on a wide range of urban problems in Asian cities, such as concentration of population in urban areas and global environmental deterioration, and We analyzes these problems in detail from the viewpoint of urban planning, disaster mitigation planning, and transport planning, using simulation model and other analytical methods. For example, we study eective land use control systems by analyzing the structure of land use change using GIS and remote sensing data, analyzing relationship between transportation network and land use, analyzing the eects of introducing new transportation modes such as BRT, and analyzing eective evacuation plan using micro trac simulation model under disaster.ResearchAreasEngineeringKeywords■Urban and Transport planning■Disaster mitigation planning■Land use■Simulation model■GISRelatedresearchSDGSustainable urban development that creates high quality living spaces and comfortable urban spacesProfessorYoshitaka KajitaUndergraduate School of EngineeringDepartment of Civil EngineeringTrip is decided by selecting opportunities, means, and routes, all of which are subject to the constraints of the current social environment. Therefore, while considering the social environment, which is the current constraint condition, we are studying the design of a trac environment and the improvement of safety and comfort in consideration of future changes in values. For example, bicycles are an easy mode, but users are less conscious of observing rules, so we are considering measures to raise awareness of safe use. We are also investigating the possibility of continuing driving by understanding the characteristics of elderly people's movements and using appropriate assistive technologies including autonomous driving.ResearchAreasEngineeringKeywords■Transport Engineering■Transport Planning■Trac Safety■Accident Analysis■Trac PsychologyRelatedresearchSDGDesigning Infrastracture and Facility for Safer, More Confortable, and Happy CitiesAssociate ProfessorMio SuzukiUndergraduate School of EngineeringDepartment of Civil Engineering80
